Melinda Copper

Animals and art have been my main interests for my entire life. At college I needed to make a choice and flipped back and forth between biology and art, but finally graduated with a BFA in painting from Florida State University.

My professional life really started when I married another artist, Bob, and we worked together on lots of different sorts of projects, from museum exhibits to bronze sculpture and theatrical scenic painting. In my spare time I still liked to paint animals but had a hiccup when I became sensitive to solvents and had to walk away from oil paints, and it became a challenge to master acrylics.

I self taught by copying old masters, working hard to use their techniques but with new products. The animal component was honoring several pets. I loved these! I’m still learning from each artist I work from. So many masters! So little time!
